Evaluation of health conditions of elderly patients with osteoarthritis in a city of the interior of Rio Grande do Sul RESUMOObjetivo: Caracterizar a prevalência de osteoartrite em idosos no município de Passo Fundo-RS, Brasil. Métodos: Tratou-se de um trabalho epidemiológico seccional de natureza descritiva e analítica, no qual foi aplicado um questionário sociodemográfico e clínico, contendo perguntas abertas e fechadas, aos indivíduos com idade igual ou superior a sessenta anos, sendo os dados analisados por meio do pacote estatístico SPSS versão 18.0. Foram entrevistados 51 idosos portadores de osteoartrite de joelhos, no período de 05 de março a 05 de agosto de 2011. Resultados: A predominância foi do sexo feminino (n=45; 88,2%), na faixa etária dos 60-69 anos (n=22; 43,1%). Em relação à escolaridade, 13 (25,4%) idosos tinham o segundo grau completo, com renda individual mensal de um salário mínimo (n=22; 43%), não fumavam (n=49; 96%) e não eram etilistas (n=47; 92%). Além disso, 44 (86%) relataram ter alguma doença, sendo a hipertensão a mais prevalente (n=21; 41%) e 44 (78,4%) faziam uso de medicamentos. Quanto à prática de atividade física, mais da metade dos entrevistados praticava alguma atividade física (n=41; 80,4%) e frequentavam grupos de terceira idade (n=38; 74,5%); ainda, a grande maioria dos idosos não sofreu nenhuma queda nos últimos 06 meses (n=41; 80,3%) e considerava boa sua saúde (n=28; 56,6%). Conclusões: Pode-se observar que as condições socioeconômicas e de saúde desses idosos apresentaram-se favoráveis, porém, vale ressaltar a importância do planejamento de políticas públicas direcionadas às necessidades específicas da população idosa, além de outros estudos que possibilitem ampliar o conhecimento a respeito dessa população.
