The aim of this research was to evaluate the fracture healing area in osteoporotic femur of female rats restrained by stainless steel wire by statin administration in two different doses (5 mg and 20 mg). Ninety female rats were divided into six groups (n = 15): SH, SH-5 mg, SH-20 mg, OVX, OVX-5 mg, and OVX-20 mg. The surgery consisted of the fracture of the left femur bone and stabilization by K-wire and the administration was restricted and weekly controlled in the drinking water. The euthanasia was conducted at three different moments, five animals per period: 7 d, 14 d, and 28 d. Densitometry, zymography, and histological analyses showed a significant difference between some groups. According to these findings, simvastatin promoted a positive action for bone repair, especially in the osteometabolic group treated with 20 mg of the drug.
This study analyzed the effects of a low-level laser therapy (LLLT, 15 J/cm2, 780 nm wavelength) and the natural latex protein (P1, 0.1%) in sciatic nerve after crush injury (15 Kgf, axonotmesis) in rats. Sixty rats (male, 250 g) were allocated into the 6 groups (n = 10): CG—control group; EG—nerve exposed; IG—injured nerve without treatment; LG—crushed nerve treated with LLLT; PG—injured nerve treated with P1; and LPG—injured nerve treated with LLLT and P1. After 4 or 8 weeks, the nerve samples were processed for morphological, histological quantification and ultrastructural analysis. After 4 weeks, the myelin density and morphological characteristics improved in groups LG, PG, and LPG compared to IG. After 8 weeks, PG, and LPG were similar to CG and the capillary density was higher in the LG, PG, and LPG. In the ultrastructural analysis the PG and LPG had characteristics that were similar to the CG. The application of LLLT and/or P1 improved the recovery from the nerve crush injury, and in the long term, the P1 protein was the better treatment used, since only the application of LLLT has not reached the same results, and these treatments applied together did not potentiate the recovery.
It is concluded that the data on skeletal muscles, especially those of mastication, are not commonly published in this data source; therefore, further studies in this field are strongly recommended.
groups) and treated with vehicle of diazepam, present increased glycolytic fibers and decreased oxidative fibers when compared to the same groups treated with diazepam (P < 0.05; Fig. 3C). Altered occlusion groups presented decreased glycolytic fibers compared to Sham groups (P < 0.05; Fig. 3C). Capillary assessment. For analysis of local vascularization, we quantified laminin in the MPMs (Fig. 4). Representative photomicrographs from the experimental groups are presented in Fig. 4A. Graphs present quantitative analysis from this reaction (Fig. 4B,C). About contralateral muscle to exodontia, rats with altered occlusion (AO group), treated or not with diazepam, present increased laminin when compared to all other experimental groups (P < 0.05; Fig. 4B). Groups under stress protocol (S and AO + S groups) treated with vehicle of diazepam, show decreased laminin compared to the same groups treated with diazepam (P < 0.05; Fig. 4B). The ipsilateral muscle of rats submitted to stress protocol (S and AO + S groups) and treated with vehicle, showed decreased laminin compared to the same groups treated with diazepam (P < 0.05; Fig. 4C).
