El objetivo de este ensayo es mostrar, a través de diversos juicios de amparo que llegaron a la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación, los conflictos en torno a la nacionalidad mexicana que tuvieron lugar en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, en particular los procesos de desnacionalización que afectaron a mexicanos, o a quienes así se consideraban. En ese momento los mecanismos y las leyes para definir quiénes eran los nacionales todavía estaban en proceso de construcción, y se crearon tanto traslapes entre legislaciones opuestas, como limbos legales, en los cuales quedaron atrapadas muchas personas. El artículo aborda los problemas que enfrentaban los ciudadanos para comprobar su nacionalidad, partiendo de la hipótesis de que los individuos cuyos casos llegaron a la Corte tienen en común haber estado inmersos en algún tipo de conflicto legal o político. En lugar de haber sido llevados ante la justicia, ciertos nacionales fueros extranjerizados para ser expulsados del país mediante el artículo 33 constitucional, recurso mucho más expedito que los cauces tradicionales de la justicia, ya que no admitía defensa alguna.
Como parte de un esfuerzo colectivo que pretende analizar la manera en que se organizan los estudios judíos en América Latina, el presente artículo ofrece una idea de lo que sucede en México con respecto a su surgimiento, los procesos de institucionalización que atraviesan, y el diálogo que sostienen –o no– con otras agendas académicas. Partimos de la propuesta de reparar explícitamente en la conexión que existe entre la producción intelectual y el lugar social en el que la misma se genera. Por ello, más que centrarnos en el análisis de los textos, intentamos localizar los estudios judíos en México y analizar a las comunidades que los producen, así como las redes y los rituales de interacción a través de los cuales se institucionaliza la vida académica.
