Determination of bioindicators of auxinic herbicides residuesHerbicides that present soil residual activity may become a problem in agricultural crops due to the possibility of crops successors intoxication. It is hard to detect residues of hormonal herbicides using the bioassay technique, due to the variation in the growth response of the indicator plant. The objective of this work was to select plants and variables susceptible to the herbicides 2,4-D and picloram for soil residue indication..To make it possible, two bioassays were performed,, where each of them consisted of 60 treatments in a factorial scheme with the combination of three plant species (Lycopersicon esculentum, Cucumis sativus and Beta vulgaris), two substrates (sand and soil sample) and 10 subdoses of herbicide (0, 3, 6, 12, 22.5, 47, 94, 187.5, 375 and 750 g ha -1 ) and (0, 3, 6, 9, 18, 30, 60, 123; 246 and 501 Recebido para publicação em 29/12/2011 e aprovado em 07/03/2013.
Pyrolysis conditions directly influence biochar properties and, consequently, influence the potential use of biochar. In this study, we evaluated the effects of different pyrolysis temperatures (450, 550, 650, 750, 850, and 950 °C) on the hydrogen potential, electrical conductivity, ash content, yield, volatile matter content, elemental analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy results, X-ray diffraction results, scanning electron microscopy results, specific surface area, and micropore volume of eucalyptus wood-derived biochar. The degree of linear association between pyrolysis temperatures and biochar properties was examined using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed a positive correlation of the pyrolysis temperature with the hydrogen potential value, electrical conductivity, and elemental carbon. There was a negative correlation of the pyrolysis temperature with the yield, volatile matter content, elemental oxygen, elemental hydrogen, surface area, aromaticity, hydrophilicity, and polarity indexes. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy data indicated an increase in aromaticity and a decrease in the polarity of high-temperature biochar. The increased pyrolysis temperature caused the loss of cellulose and crystalline mineral components, as indicated by X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy images. These results indicated that changing the pyrolysis temperature enables the production of biochar from the same raw material with a wide range of physicochemical properties, which allows its use in various types of agricultural and environmental activities.
In the first visual assessment of intoxication, the most visible symptoms in cassava plants of poisoning was observed at 7 days after application (DAA), caused by mixture treatment (fomesafen + fluzifop-p-butyl) and fomesafen isolated as well. At the end of the evaluation period (35 DAP), was observed reduction of intoxication signs and foliage recovery of all cassava cultivars tested. The mixture showed to be very toxic causing reductions in leaf dry matter, stem dry matter, shoots dry matter, stem diameter, leaf area and plant height. Despite a high rate of poisoning by the herbicide fomesafen, variations in dry matter accumulation was not observed Treatments based on fluazifop-p-butyl were not toxic to culture similar to plants of the check plots. There were no differences of tolerance level to herbicide treatments in the all cassava cultivars tested.
In this crop, mechanical weed control is the most commonly used, due to the lack of registered herbicides for cassava crop. In the search for alternatives to this problem, this work aimed to evaluate the tolerance level of cassavas cultivars to mesotrione herbicide applied in post emergence. A experiment was conducted, in green house conditions, in randomized blocks with four replications. A factorial scheme 5x5 was adopted, consisting of the combination of five dosages of mesotrione herbicides and five cassava 1 Recebido para publicação em 23/12/2011 e aceito em 22/02/2012.
Canavalia ensiformis. Crotalaria spectabilis. Lablab purpureus. Mucuna deenringianaAbstract -Green manuring is a positive practice that reduces the impact on agricultural production systems aimed at sustainable land use. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of six legumes used for green manure, the productivity of biomass, land cover and use of photosynthetic active radiation in the region of the Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The experiment was conducted during March to October, 2010 in randomized block design with four replications. Green manures were used: Crotalaria spectabilis, Canavalia ensiformis, Cajanus cajan, Lablab purpureus, Mucuna deenringiana and Lupinus albus. Green manures had high yields of biomass, however, different peaks of ground cover and radiation interception were observed. The largest accumulations of dry and fresh matter were observed in C. spectabilis followed by C. cajan. Among the species studied, C. ensiformis has a larger growing season, representing great potential for soil covering, and is important for the interception of photosynthetically active radiation.
