A utilização do adobe pelo homem é datada desde os primeiros modelos habitacionais que se tem registro. No Brasil, a técnica foi amplamente utilizada no período colonial, passando por diversos cenários, tendo seu uso declinado a partir da Revolução Industrial. Com os crescentes problemas ambientais causados pelo uso desenfreado de novos materiais, o adobe, dentre outras técnicas de construção com terra, ressurge com potencial de aplicação, principalmente pelo baixo impacto ambiental associado. Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar historicamente a produção do conhecimento sobre o adobe no panorama nacional, desde o período colonial até os dias atuais com enfoque nos últimos 10 anos, buscando entender seu processo dinâmico de atuação tanto na paisagem arquitetônica brasileira, como no aspecto sociocultural associado, identificando as causas da retomada no seu uso por meio da questão da sustentabilidade. Os resultados evidenciaram um aumento substancial no número de publicações nesse período, por outro lado, Por outro lado, identificou-se uma demanda considerável por novas pesquisas na área, além da atuação política e social para a normatização, na disseminação da técnica tanto em âmbito acadêmico como na cadeia da construção civil nacional por sua ligação com as questões relativas às construções mais sustentáveis.
