A prevenção em saúde é uma ação que objetiva a higidez física e mental do indivíduo por meio de práticas educativas que visem disseminar conhecimento para correção de atitudes, valores e mudança de hábitos. As drogas como problema de saúde pública no Brasil têm atingido todos os estratos sociais, inclusive o militar. Objetivo: Este estudo objetivou identificar a percepção que os soldados do Exército Brasileiro, em cumprimento do serviço militar obrigatório em Salvador/BA, possuem acerca do assunto drogas. Método: Estudo de coorte prospectivo que utilizou questionário semiestruturado para identificar opiniões e experiências dos soldados participantes sobre drogas. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que, apesar de boa parte ter conhecimento das consequências e percepção negativa sobre as drogas, ainda há um pequeno grupo que desconhece as repercussões legais e de saúde sobre o uso de entorpecentes. Conclusão: Este estudo concluiu a importância da ação educativa no combate às drogas, pois este problema de saúde pública circunda não só o ambiente civil como também o militar.Palavras-chave: militares, drogas, políticas de saúde.
