Los cafés especiales del Departamento de Nariño han sido reconocidos mundialmente por su excelente calidad, pero se han visto afectados por el inadecuado manejo del producto en su cadena de suministro, específicamente en las zonas donde se almacena, repercutiendo directamente en sus atributos diferenciales, por lo cual se presenta un acercamiento de resolver el problema de selección y ubicación de posibles zonas potenciales, para el establecimiento de un centro de distribución. En el presente estudio se aplicó un enfoque de toma de decisiones con criterios múltiples (MCDA), específicamente el proceso de jerarquía analítica (AHP) y combinación lineal ponderada (WLC), con la incorporación de criterios geográficos y su implementación en herramientas GIS (Geographical Information Systems). Se evaluaron 38 alternativas posibles (Municipios Productores), mediante criterios previamente identificados con la ayuda de expertos: producción Municipal, conectividad vial y temperaturas medias. Como resultado se obtuvo un mapa a nivel Departamental de posibles zonas potenciales y zonas inadecuadas. Como conclusión podemos afirmar que a medida que aumenta el número de criterios, implica mayor complejidad para la toma de decisiones. En detalle se describen los métodos, criterios y conjuntos de datos utilizados, resultados obtenidos y discusión, finalmente las conclusiones más significativas.
