En 1941 Eero Saarinen y Charles Eames ganaron los primeros premios en el concurso de mobiliario moderno promovido por el MoMA. Sus diseños de sillas y butacas de madera laminada fueron aclamados por la crítica especializada; sin embargo, la entrada de los Estado Unidos en la Segunda Guerra Mundial impidió el posterior desarrollo de los prototipos y modelos a escala premiados. En 1947 el Museo volvió a convocar un nuevo concurso, orientado en esta ocasión a promover un mobiliario adecuado a las nuevas condiciones de la vida doméstica en la época de posguerra. La exposición en 1950 de los prototipos premiados, junto a otros de calidad indudable, tendr´ía una gran repercusión en el diseño de mobiliario durante la década de los cincuenta, contribuyendo a forjar el imaginario de lo que solemos conocer como el American Way of Life.
La regeneración urbana es un campo en el que los métodos basados en datos han demostrado su utilidad tanto para el análisis de necesidades como para la simulación de actuaciones. Tras sintetizar el panorama actual en España a este respecto, este artículo presenta los planteamientos metodológicos de sucesivos trabajos desarrollados en esta materia en la Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla y León, así como los fundamentos de un método denominado “Modelo de Información Urbana de Barrio” (MIUB) orientado a la evaluación previa de actuaciones de regeneración urbana, y que parte del uso de datos abiertos y de su tratamiento mediante procedimientos sencillos a través de software de uso habitual del ámbito de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica y el Building Information Modelling. Aunque estas premisas imponen las limitaciones actualmente inherentes a los métodos que renuncian a procesos complejos de tratamiento de datos y a la generación de herramientas tecnológicas o informáticas ad hoc, se constata su utilidad para caracterizar las necesidades de regeneración de los tejidos urbanos y evaluar desde una lógica comparativa posibles actuaciones de intervención en ámbitos definidos en ellos.
ResumenCon motivo de la conmemoración de los cincuenta años de vida del Parador de Turismo de Zamora, se pretende ahondar en el proceso de transformación que sufrió el edificio que lo albergó: el palacio de los Condes de Alba de Aliste. Para ello se hace una aproximación a la política turística de aquellos momentos, así como los establecimientos hoteleros del Estado más cercanos a la capital zamorana.Posteriormente se estudia la historia del edificio y sus diferentes usos, entre los que destacó su utilización como Hospicio Provincial durante más de cien años.A continuación se abordan las claves que dieron como resultado la elección del palacio como sede del parador, así como el análisis del proyecto de transformación del inmueble en establecimiento hotelero, redactado por el arquitecto Jesús Valverde Viñas. Además, se estudia el proceso de obra y los derribos de determinadas partes del mismo que dieron como resultado el edificio que se puede observar en la actualidad. AbstractOn the occasion of the Parador de Turismo of Zamora's fifty years of existence, we pretend to investigate in depth the transformation process undergone by its building: the palace of the Condes de Alba de Aliste. For such reason, we must approach the tourism policy at that time, as well as the relation with other stateowned establishments near Zamora city Subsequently, the history of the building and its different uses are studied, among which stands out its use as Provincial Hospice for more than a hundred years.Further on, the key factors that resulted in the selection of the palace as the location for the the hostel are studied, as well as the analysis of the transformation project of the building into an hotel, drafted by architect Jesús Valverde Viñas. In addition, we analyze the work process and the demolition of certain parts which resulted in the building that can be observed today.
La exposición Festival of Britain de Londres de 1951 ocupa un destacado lugar en la historia de la arquitectura inglesa de la postguerra por ser el punto de arranque de la recuperación urbana del South Bank de Londres. Tuvo un gran apoyo y protagonismo en The Architectural Review, que publicó varios artículos y un número monográfico con el fin de mostrar como el master plan de la exposición se ajustaba a los ideales del Visual Planning y del Townscape que la revista venía difundiendo desde hacía unos años. Pero también fue criticada por un grupo de jóvenes arquitectos liderados por Reyner Banham que como reacción propondrían una arquitectura alternativa que fue denominada como el New Brutalism.
