Nas últimas duas décadas, a Praia das Tartarugas em Rio das Ostras, nordeste do Estado do Rio de Janeiro vem passando por intenso e acelerado processo erosivo. A maior parte da orla encontra-se em estágio avançado de urbanização. A construção da ciclovia e a ampliação da rodovia Amaral Peixoto sobre a zona de pós-praia alterou o balanço sedimentar acarretando retrogradação da linha de praia. Soma-se a essas intervenções a construção da barragem de Juturnaiba no médio curso do rio São João que reteve grande quantidade de sedimentos a montante, afetando a mecânica do transporte de sedimentos nas praias localizadas próximas à foz desse rio. O presente trabalho apresenta uma estratégia de monitoramento do processo erosivo em 2 (duas) escalas temporais de médio (décadas) e curto prazo (anual). Como procedimento metodológico utilizou-se fotografias aéreas de diferentes datas de vôo correspondente aos anos de 1975 e 2003 e execução de 24 (vinte e quatro) perfis de praia entre 2009 e 2010 através de rastreador geodésico GPS Pró-Mark 2. Resultados apontam recuo da linha de praia na ordem de 40 m em 28 anos e perdas volumétricas (erosão) na maior parte dos 8 (oito) perfis executados.
As mudanças morfológicas em ambientes costeiros são produtos de interações entre o oceano e o continente, onde as ondas são o principal agente responsável pelo "input" de energia no transporte de sedimentos. O presente manuscrito tem como objetivo quantifi car taxas de transporte de sedimentos induzidos por ondas nas praias da Tartaruga e Abricó, segmento norte da Enseada da Baia Formosa, Rio das Ostras-Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Como procedimento metodológico realizouse levantamento histórico do clima de ondas e tratamento estatístico de dezesseis amostras de sedimentos coletados na zona de surfe (antepraia) em diferentes datas. Os principais parâmetros sedimentológicos utilizados foram o diâmetro mediano do grão (D 50), grau de seleção (σ) e grau de assimetria (Sk). As estimativas de taxas de transporte de sedimentos foram obtidas através da expressão matemática proposta por KOMAR & INMAN (1970) também conhecida como fórmula do CERC (1984). Resultados obtidos sugerem predomínio de transporte residual de norte para sul, com taxas entre 75.000 m 3 .ano-1 a 515.000 m 3 .ano-1. A disparidade entre os valores obtidos associa-se a frequência e alturas de ondas signifi cativas em águas profundas (H 0) para os diferentes quadrantes e também às variações texturais dos sedimentos analisados.
O arco praial da enseada da Baia Formosa, Região dos Lagos Fluminense - Estado do Rio de Janeiro, encontra-se em processo de recuo de linha de praia (erosão costeira) decorrente da ação de ondas de tempestade e da ocupação urbana da orla costeira nos últimos 40 anos. Objetiva-se avaliar do ponto de vista quantitativo as condições de vulnerabilidade geológica desse segmento litorâneo, conforme projeção de uma possível sobrelevação do nível médio mar. Utilizou-se o Índice de Vulnerabilidade Costeira - IVC, desenvolvido pelo USGS - United States Geological Survey, visando classificar áreas de risco geológico. Através de técnicas SIGs, foram analisadas variáveis físicas e dinâmicas que integram o modelo de vulnerabilidade proposto. Como referência, utilizaram-se as informações de projeções de sobrelevação do nível médio do mar do IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, estimadas em 4,0 mm/ano e 15,0 mm/ano até 2100. Resultados obtidos sugerem que 41,5% do segmento sul da área de estudo apresenta vulnerabilidade baixa e 58,5% do segmento norte aponta vulnerabilidade alta. O mapa IVC desenvolvido para a região estudada mostrou-se eficiente para possíveis tomadas de decisão por parte do poder público quanto ao processo de erosão costeira, em curso, nesse segmento litorâneo do sudeste brasileiro.
