Resumo O artigo pretende trazer elementos relevantes para a apreensão do capitalismo contemporâneo, partindo da hipótese de que ele está sujeito a uma crise estrutural. Para tanto, o enfoque adotado atribui especial importância para a lógica de imposição do capital e seus dispositivos fetichistas que subordinam os diferentes países aos imperativos do processo de valorização capitalista. Tal enfoque é desenvolvido no bojo de um debate com as abordagens sistêmicas de Arrighi, Fiori e Wallerstein. Por articularem conjuntamente as esferas econômica, política e social do capitalismo, sugere-se que, tanto na exposição como também nas críticas cabíveis a tais abordagens, é possível trazer à tona questões importantes para o entendimento das transformações recentes.
Diante do agravamento de problemas econômicos e sociais no contexto da pandemia, em que há um «revival» keynesiano nos países industrializados, este artigo questiona se faz sentido reviver o progressismo como uma alternativa civilizatória na América Latina. O texto faz o seguinte movimento. Incialmente, problematiza-se a ideologia do progresso. Em seguida, sobrevoa-se a situação de diferentes países latino-americanos no contexto que antecedeu a pandemia do coronavírus, para explorar a hipótese de esgotamento do progresssismo. Ao contrário de explicar o momento político atual como uma reação a avanços precedentes, sugere-se que a tentativa de conter o processo histórico de dessocialização nos marcos da crise estrutural do capitalismo implicou no recurso a práticas, dispositivos e políticas que terminaram acelerando este mesmo processo, que é detalhado no caso brasileiro. As noções de «contenção aceleracionista», «progressivismo regressivo» e «neoliberalismo inclusivo» são as chaves propostas para examinar as contradições do progressivismo e entender porque a onda progressista não abriu caminho para um mundo melhor. O texto se encerra com um paralelo entre as expectativas de um retorno keynesiano no contexto da pandemia e os limites do horizonte civilizatório progressista para enfrentar os problemas estruturais agravados por esta situação inédita.
Como toda lista deste tipo é de certa forma uma exclusão, opto por agradecer sem nominar o conjunto de pessoas que foram importante na elaboração deste trabalho, conjunto que abrange tanto os colegas e professores do IE-Unicamp, quanto outras pessoas de fora do Instituto das quais obtive ajuda e sugestões.Por outro lado, cabe, sem dúvida, um agradecimento especial ao meu orientador Plínio de Arruda Sampaio Júnior pelo enorme apoio e estímulo, que certamente foram essenciais durante todo este trajeto.Por fim, dedico a tese aos meus pais, responsáveis por despertar em mim desde a infância a paixão pelo conhecimento, sem a qual não faria sentido o esforço aqui empreendido.ix ResumoNesta tese nosso objetivo é desenvolver uma reflexão acerca das visões de capitalismo de três autores fundamentais do pensamento econômico do século XX: Schumpeter, Keynes e Hayek. Mais precisamente, trata-se de apreendermos a maneira pela qual tais autores buscaram equacionar o problema do mercado e da esfera econômica com a questão do Estado e da esfera política. Tal problemática esteve informada para eles por uma situação de instabilidade e de ameaças à ordem capitalista. Nosso estudo buscará apontar tanto as especificidades e idiossincrasias de suas visões de capitalismo como também indicar os elementos e aspectos comuns aos três autores.
