S. acmella, uma planta rica em espilantol, é usada de forma versátil em composições cosméticas de patentes multifuncionais, mas principalmente com ação antienvelhecimento. Em uma busca por patentes de cosméticos com a presença de Spilanthes acmella e espécies similares, foi realizada uma prospecção por meio da base de dados do Espacenet. Nessa revisão sistemática, com a presença de Spilanthes acmella em formulações cosméticas com funções hidratantes, antienvelhecimento, antioleosidade, clareadora, e em dentifrícios, 26 patentes foram consideradas adequadas para discussão. O país onde ocorreu o maior número de depósitos de patentes foi a China, com 61,5% do total. As criações mostraram diversas combinações de extratos e óleos que corroboram com o crescimento do uso de ativos naturais em cosméticos e mostram uma tendência crescente para o futuro do ramo cosmético.
A Malus domestica que possui metabólitos presentes em sua composição tem aplicações diversas. Estudos fitoquímicos demonstraram a presença de compostos como ácido málico e procianidinas tipo B que podem ser utilizados em formulações cosméticas. A metodologia utilizada foi a revisão sistemática com uma base de dados obtida no Espacenet. Vinte e duas patentes foram consideradas adequadas para discussão nesta revisão com a presença de Malus domestica em formulações cosméticas com funções hidratantes, antienvelhecimento e clareadoras, e a China obteve o maior número de patentes depositadas com mais de 40%. Malus domestica mostrou-se uma promissora fonte de metabólitos aplicáveis na área cosmética, devido à versatilidade encontrada nas patentes, ao usar ativos naturais, o que corrobora com o crescimento dessas patentes e o estudo quanto ao uso da Malus domestica.
