Research allows for the strengthening of disciplines, particularly those that draw on information from various specialties, such as public health. The objective of this report is to provide consolidated methodological perspectives to enrich public health as a science. The review highlights three key elements: the type of investigative approach, the evidence and competence approaches in the methodological context of the inquiry into collective health. It is concluded that the systematic, specific knowledge, integrated to the context and obtained in attention to the circumstances of the investigation, the object of study and the institutional location, contribute with the strengthening of public health as a multidisciplinary science, directly involved, for its competence and based on the evidence, in the decision making in matters of health by the State in areas as important as needs, services and health systems.
Parasites that affect the skin in humans compromise health, but its epidemiological characterization is difficult due to the lack of official records. The purpose of this work was to describe some epidemiological characteristics of leishmaniasis, filariasis, echinococcosis, scabies and pediculosis as parasites that injure the skin. The present work was based on the documentary review of scientific literature in electronic format on the subject. It is concluded that there is no uniformity in the existing epidemiological studies on parasites that injure skin, and that this report provides information to the health agencies of the countries for the control of such a relevant public health problem.
In pregnant women, parasitic diseases constitute an important public health problem due to physiological factors that characterize this stage. That is why it is crucial to review different aspects of the parasite-host interaction as tools for the prevention and control of these pathologies during pregnancy, the objective of this paper. This is a documentary-type investigation. The information obtained was grouped into 6 chapters: resistance or susceptibility of pregnant women to parasitic diseases, anemia and parasitic diseases in pregnant women, relationship between micronutrient deficiency and parasite infection in pregnant women, congenital transmission of parasites, treatment of some parasitosis in pregnant, and conclusions.
