Sensores basados en nanopartículas de α-Fe2O3 (hematita) puras y dopadas con Pt concargas de 0,1; 0,2 y 0,3% (peso respecto del óxido) fueron preparados por el método decoprecipitación para la detección de metano, usando carbonato de sodio como agenteprecipitante y polietilenglicol (PEG) como antiaglomerante. Las muestras fueroncaracterizadas por difracción de rayos X (XRD), sorción de N2 (método BET) y microscopíaelectrónica de transmisión (TEM). Los difractogramas de rayos X de las muestras hancorrespondido mayoritariamente a la fase α-hematita. La introducción del Pt como dopanteno ha modificado la estructura del óxido de partida. Todos los sensores han presentadoisotermas micro-mesoporosas tipo IV. Según las micrografías TEM, las nanopartículas hansido heterogéneas con tamaños entre 50 a 150 nm. Los tests catalíticos fueron realizados conconcentraciones de 300 a 900 ppm de metano y temperaturas de trabajo de 150 a 400 °C. Elsensor con 0,3% de Pt y con 0,3% de PEG (20000) mostró la más alta señal de respuesta,para 900 ppm de metano a 300 °C, debido probablemente a una buena formación de la fasecristalina, buena dispersión de las nanopartículas y por presentar la más alta superficie decontacto del material sensor.
