En el presente artículo se exponen las características más sobresalientes de las variedades lingüísticas, las cuales hacen alusión a las distintas formas de comunicarse (rasgos de la lengua). El objetivo de la investigación es captar las formas de construcción o empleo del vocabulario inadecuado que dificulta la interpretación correcta del mensaje, en las universidades del cantón Ambato-Ecuador. La lengua del hablante depende de varios factores arraigados en su ubicación geográfica (variedades diatópicas), de su formación académica, grado de escolaridad o cultura (sociolecto), de su lugar en el tiempo o ubicación histórica (variedades diacrónicas). De la misma forma, se evidencian las diversificaciones socioculturales (jerga y argot) en su nivel formal y coloquial. Por otra parte, se ostentan las variedades diafásicas, conocidas como estilísticas, se mencionan algunas frases coloquiales y regionalismos propios de esta ciudad. Asimismo, se nominan palabras en sus distintas variedades de la lengua a la par de sus lectos pertinentes (geolecto, sociolecto, idiolecto, cronolecto). Se aplicó la investigación fundamentada, ya que se adaptó el estudio a la realidad social, fue más interpretativa que descriptiva y se aplicó tres fases: descripción, codificación y comparación. Finalmente, se demostró que los vulgarismos y barbarismos son propios de la jornada de ciudadano ambateño, específicamente en el joven universitario. Su uso, hace que el intercambio lingüístico sea más estable, natural y ameno.
