The sustainable development of humanity imposes precise norms regarding the management of natural resources, their extraction, use, and the introduction in a complex, innovative circuit of the waste resulting from exploitation. The paper deals with some aspects related to the sustainable management of general medical waste on the one hand and the medical waste specific to the COVID-19 pandemic, on the other hand. Medical waste requires special treatment given its impact on the environment and on humanity. The management of activities related to its storage, transport, destruction is an important point in the sustainable development of mankind, especially in the current context of the pandemic. Medical waste is in a continuous increase in quantity and involves many effects in various activity fields. Through a scientometric study in the Web of Science—WOS database, the authors identify clusters of keywords, analyze the articles identified in the WOS and identify the main research directions and existing concepts. Corroborating and interpreting the results obtained, three significant trends of approach to medical waste are identified: M—management (1); E—exposure (2); and D—distribution (3). An extensive map of the concepts is made, a narrow map of the concepts used, and a theoretical map of the concepts. The link between medical waste and the development of a sustainable society is demonstrated, and it is possible to open new research directions. The scientometric research undertaken on 1192 WOS articles that were published in 2020 led to the selection of 32, focused on issues related to hazardous medical waste, especially of COVID-19 patients. Following this approach, the authors were able to see, by comparison, the different forms of management of this waste in different countries, thus being able to contribute to the creation of procedures for the collection, storage, and destruction of this hazardous waste, with direct influence on the environment.
Paper presents some aspects regarding the scientific research in universities or research institutes oriented to fundamental or practical aspects. It is known that a researcher must publish his work, but the problems are: publish as single or multiauthors, in ISI or domestic journals, in international proceedings conference having ISBN, to protect the new information as IP national or international organization. The permanent process of research for business, its compulsory steps, the role of innovation and business incubators, are as supporting elements for SME's growth. Beside the facilities offered to SMEs, other benefits come from creating a business incubator, such as: developing innovative products, product design, prototyping, technological transfer and nevertheless, registration and exploitation of intellectual property rights, coming from the obtained products of research. In order to be even more practical, we chose an example of a functional business incubator, ITA Pro-Energ, and showed the facilities that it offers to its incubated SMEs, as well as their improvement on market position.
The following paper refers to some general aspects regarding the measurement of natural gas. There are also presented the unauthorized intervention methods in natural gas distribution system and implicitly the fraudulent consumption of natural gas. It has been proposed to identify, analyze and respond to the risks involved in the measurement process, and to create a new natural gas meter by proposing an internal procedure set to prevent and reduce as much as possible unauthorized distribution. The measuring device is capable of preventing and detecting in real time unauthorized use of the distribution system. All these actions lead to changes in the competitive management process of the trading company involved in the distribution of natural gas
Design stages have been widely recognized as a milestone in the life cycle of a product in sustainability implementation, and this is of major importance for leading organizations that produce cost-effective and environmentally friendly products. This paper focuses on analyzing some aspects of environmental impact and ecological sustainability of design models using SolidWorks CAD design software. The material from which the piece was made was evaluated, with emphasis on its strength, durability and environmental pollution in terms of carbon footprint, energy consumption, air acidification, and eutrophication. Consideration was given to the whole life cycle of the product under consideration, from raw material extraction, processing, product production, assembling and use to the end of life, taking into account the mode of transport and the distance between these stages. In the case study is presented the virtual model of the analyzed product and the sustainability report that the SolidWorks software provides us and which can be analyzed later by the whole organization for the adoption of the right decision.
This paper refers to analyzing some components of a natural gas meter. There is a question of making the gas meter design and execution process more efficient. A description of the components of a gas meter is made. It is proposed to improve the natural gas meter. Designing is an important and vital stage in the product’s lifetime, an analysis of the environmental impact and the durability of the product is done, so an analysis is made using the SolidWorks-CAD software. The object of the analysis is a toothed wheel, part of the mechanical bimetal temperature compensator. The case study presents a sustainability report showing a decrease in manufacturing cost, an improvement in the materials used, and a lower impact on the environment.
The paper refers to some general aspects regarding the natural gas measurement. In this paper, we try to find methods for checking the quality and risks for gas meters. It is trying to find answers to the question of how we could design and operate a gas meter so that the measurement is as accurate as possible. A process has been proposed to identify, analyze and control the emerging risks. The desirable quality of the measuring instrument requires a rigorous analysis of all aspects that could adversely affect. It also shows the interdependence between quality and risk, one can not exist without the other. Based on these principles, the following papers propose the approach of case studies on the innovation of a new type of natural gas meter, focusing on the quality of the new product and its ability to accurately measure and prevent unauthorized consumption.
The circular economy (CE) is a contemporary concept that includes the use of renewable materials and technologies, making sustainability an important part of corporate management. The paper deals with issues related to the current state of learning and management of the application of circular economy concepts—CE. The main purpose of this work is to identify both the interest of industries in the CE field in terms of the principles of eco-design and eco-innovation of sustainable industrial products, as well as the approach and development of the concept during the pandemic period. The authors performed a scientometric analysis in the Web of Science (WOS) database for the CE field, having two search criteria: sustainability and eco-design. As a result, 66 publications from the last five years were retained. Given the higher number of publications in the last three years, CE was found to be a topical area. Out of the 66 publications, using the PRISMA diagram, the authors identified the eligible articles, excluding 15 of them as being only tangential to the CE field and not applied in the industry. Depending on the high frequency of certain keywords, the authors identified three important directions for the CE approach that corroborate and interpret the results obtained: M—management (1); P—packing (2); and L—Learning (3). Following this approach, the authors determined the focus of the manufacturing industries in terms of applying the concepts and principles of CE, thus being able to contribute to the creation of eco-innovation and eco-design practices of industrial products, especially industrial packaging. The paper will also be beneficial for Ph.D. students who show a certain interest in CE and will help develop the following research directions in this field.
Among the current challenges of the global automotive industry include changes in global markets that lead to a variety of products, regulation that drives pressure on new technologies, and competition from new competitors. This paper attempts to find answers to the question, how can we capitalize the semi-finished parts of the automotive industry that have emerged from the parameters demanded/imposed by the final customer or which have some visual / design defects, but which retain their functional role. In almost all cases, information and communication technology plays a major role in future strategies to meet the challenges mentioned above, which can stimulate the production process more efficient by using intelligent manufacturing approaches. Thus, this paper proposes to automate and maximize the capitalization of these parts, a Paternoster system for eliminating the logistics/storage space, reducing the handling time, increasing the efficiency and traceability of the scrap.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
