Abstrael-It hasbeen proved that it is possible toguaranteedelay bounds in a GeueralizedProeessor Sharing (GPS) server when traffic is regulated by the Leaky Bueket algorithm. However, the Leaky Bucket is not an appropriate regulator for long-range d e pendent (LRD) traffic. This paper introduces the computation of backlog and delay bounds for a GPS server under LRD )traffic. Traffic is assumed to be regulated by the Fractal Leaky Bucket, which is proved to be au effective policing mechanism for LRD traffic.
The use of beamforming for efficient transmission has already been successfully implemented in practical systems and is absolutely necessary to even further increase spectral and energy efficiencies in some configurations of the next-generation wireless systems and for low earth orbit satellites. A remarkable capacity increase is then achieved and spectral congestion is minimized. In this context, this article proposes a novel complex multiple-input multiple-output radial basis function neural network (CMM-RBF) for transmitter beamforming, based on the phase transmittance radial basis function neural network (PTRBFNN). The proposed CMM-RBF is compared with the least mean square (LMS) algorithm for beamforming with six dipoles arranged in a uniform and circular array and with 16 dipoles in a 2D-grid array. Simulation results show that the proposed solution presents lower steady-state mean squared error, faster convergence rate and enhanced half-power beamwidth (HPBW) when compared with the LMS algorithm in a nonlinear scenario.
This paper presents a systematic analysis of a game controlled by a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) based on Steady-State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEP). The objective is to understand BCI systems from the Human-Computer Interface (HCI) point of view, by observing how the users interact with the game and evaluating how the interface elements influence the system performance. The interactions of 30 volunteers with our computer game, named “Get Coins,” through a BCI based on SSVEP, have generated a database of brain signals and the corresponding responses to a questionnaire about various perceptual parameters, such as visual stimulation, acoustic feedback, background music, visual contrast, and visual fatigue. Each one of the volunteers played one match using the keyboard and four matches using the BCI, for comparison. In all matches using the BCI, the volunteers achieved the goals of the game. Eight of them achieved a perfect score in at least one of the four matches, showing the feasibility of the direct communication between the brain and the computer. Despite this successful experiment, adaptations and improvements should be implemented to make this innovative technology accessible to the end user.
