Our results suggest that orthokeratology may slow myopia progression in children. Further large-scale studies are needed to substantiate the current result and to investigate the long-term effects of orthokeratology in myopia control.
Novel nanocomposites of polylactide (PLA) nanofibers and tetraheptylammonium-capped Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles have been prepared and utilized to realize the efficient accumulation of anticancer drug daunorubicin in target cancer cells. The observations of optical microscopy and confocal fluorescence microscopy indicate that the PLA nanofibers and Fe3O4 nanoparticles may contribute to their beneficial effects on intracellular drug uptake of leukemia K562 cell lines in which the efficiently enhanced accumulation of anticancer drug daunorubicin on the membrane of cancer cells could be observed. Meanwhile, the electrochemical detection and the microculture tetrazolium studies were also explored to probe the effect of the relevant nanomaterials on the drug uptake of cancer cells. The results illustrate that the nanocomposites could effectively facilitate the interaction of daunorubicin with leukemia cells and remarkably enhance the permeation and drug uptake of anticancer agents in the cancer cells, which could readily lead to the induction of the cell death of leukemia cells. This observation suggests a new perspective for the targeted therapeutic approaches of cancers.
High precision CCD observations of six totally eclipsing contact binaries were presented and analyzed. It is found that only one target is an A-type contact binary (V429 Cam), while the others are W-type contact ones. By analyzing the times of light minima, we discovered that two of them exhibit secular period increase while three manifest long-term period decrease. For V1033 Her, a cyclic variation superimposed on the long-term increase was discovered. By comparing the Gaia distances with those calculated by the absolute parameters of 173 contact binaries, we found that the Gaia distance can be applied to estimate the absolute parameters for most contact binaries. The absolute parameters of our six targets were estimated using their Gaia distances. The evolutionary status of contact binaries was studied, and we found that the A- and W-subtype contact binaries may have different formation channels. The relationship between the spectroscopic and photometric mass ratios for 101 contact binaries was presented. It was discovered that the photometric mass ratios are in good agreement with the spectroscopic ones for almost all of the totally eclipsing systems, which is corresponding to the results derived by Pribulla et al. and Terrell & Wilson.
The one-meter telescope at Weihai Observatory of Shandong University is an f/8 Cassegrain telescope. Three sets of filters, including Johnson-Cousins UBVRI, Sloan Digital Sky Survey u ′ g ′ r ′ i ′ z ′ and Strömgren uvby, are installed in a dual layer filterwheel. The photometric system and the CCD camera are introduced in this paper, followed by detailed analysis of their performances, and determination of the relevant parameters, including gain, readout noise, dark current and linearity of the CCD camera. In addition, the characteristics of the site astro-climate condition, including typical seeing, clear nights statistics, and average sky brightness were studied systematically based on data gathered from Sep. 2007 to Aug. 2013, and were reported in this work. Photometric calibrations were done using 8 nights Landolt standard star observations, which yielded transformation coefficients, photometry precision and system throughput. The limiting magnitudes were simulated using the derived calibration parameters and classic observation conditions at WHO.
