Tunable solid-state dye laser samples based on poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) doped with PM567 and PM580 were prepared and the laser performances for them were studied in this letter. With pump repetition rate of 1 Hz and incident intensity of 0.1 J/cm 2 , more than 30 nm wide tunable range had all been achieved using the two samples, and the highest slope efficiency of 52.08% was obtained in the sample PM567. To the best of our knowledge, the efficiency is the highest under the same condition so far. The linewidth for the laser was measured with the result of less than 0.2 nm. All results indicate that the high laser performance using tunable solid-state dye lasers based on PMMA doped with PM dyes can be achieved. A 879 nm diode-laser end-pumped diffusion-bonding composite YVO4/Nd:GdVO4 crystal was firstly demonstrated at the emission of 1063 nm. Simulation results showed the temperature and stress intensity were lower in YVO4/Nd:GdVO4 crystal. A maximum continuous wave (CW) output power of 14.8 W was obtained, corresponding to the slope efficiency of 54.4% and optical-optical efficiency of 48.1%. Better laser performances are expected with the improvement of YVO4/Nd:GdVO4 crystal quality.

Abstract:Effective CW and A-O Q-switched laser operations were demonstrated firstly using a continuous-grown GdVO 4 /Nd:GdVO 4 composite rod. A maximum CW output power of 19.2 W was obtained with the slope efficiency of 79.6% and the maximum optical-optical efficiency of 73.0% to absorbed pump power. In A-O Q-switched operation, the pulse width of 15.0 ns, 10.6 ns, and 6.9 ns, the peak power of about 11.3 kW, 29.6 kW, and 130.4 kW were achieved at the repetition rate of 100 kHz, 50 kHz, and 10 kHz, respectively.

Higher order processes that produced visible fluorescence observed in Nd:GdVO4 laser crystals pumped by 808 nm diode-laser were studied in the spectroscopic measurements. These processes were the energy transfer upconversion and the excited state absorption. The green, orange and the red emissions can be attributed to the transitions from the 4 G 7/2 excited state, which is populated by the ETU, the UV and blue emissions can be attributed to the ESA. The upconversion spectra indicate that ETU and ESA process seem to be responsible for the observed visible luminescence.

Solid-state dye sample based on modified polymethyl methacrylate (MPMMA) co-doped with pyrromethene 597 (PM597), and coumarin 460 (C460) were prepared. A frequency-doubled pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used to pump solidstate dye sample, and the narrow linewidth dye laser of 94.4 mJ was obtained at 582 nm in an oscillator-amplifier configuration. Using a beta-BaB 2 O 4 (BBO) crystal to frequency double the dye laser into ultraviolet (UV), a tuning range from 279 to 305 nm was demonstrated from a single doped PM597 dye. To the best of our knowledge, the UV tuning range is the best under the same condition so far. The conversion slope efficiency from solid dye laser to UV laser was 8.9% and the highest UV laser output energy reached 6.94 mJ at 291 nm. Wavelength, nm UV tuning curve with a BBO doubling crystal
