A study of a spouted bed combustion through direct visual observation in a half cylindrical bed (9 cm ID x 50 cm height, flat based) is reported. The different combustion modes are described as a function of the massflow of the gas mixture entering the bed and of the ratio of air to combustible. These combustion modes have been analyzed and documented with the aid of colour cinematography and photography. Bed temperatures have also been registered. Various bed heights of sand and different sizes of the orifice have been used.
