A study of the response of the sodium iodide scintillation counter to photons in the energy range from 10 to 1500 kev has shown the presence of a significant nonlinearity. Response curves are given for a number of crystals of different dimensions.
The difference between the frequency factors B measured in isocomposition media and those in isodielectric media was calculated by the equation of Amis and Cook.2 The r values used in the calculations of the difference between the critical increments and the difference between the frequency factors in the two kinds of media were identical. The r value obtained from the slope of the line log kK = 0 versus l/D was almost twice that used in the above calculations.
L x-ray fluorescence yields for the Ra, Th, U, Pu, and Cm daughters of even-even alpha emitters were measured by three methods. Internal conversion of El gammas from the decay of these nuclides produces approximately equal numbers of Lu and Lui vacancies and practically no L\ vacancies; the yields reported here are, therefore, averages of the Lu and Lui shell yields. The results are: Ra, 0.480±0.012; Th, 0.488 ±0.008; U, 0.478±0.009; Pu, 0.540±0.009; and Cm, 0.531 ±0.010.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
