Some new cobalt(II) carbodithioates, viz. [Co (4-EtPipzcdtH) m ]X n (4-EtPipzcdtH = 4-ethylpiperazine-1-carbodithioic acid, X = Cl, Br, ClO 4 , NO 3 and CH 3 COO when m = n = 2 and SO 4 , CO 3 when m = 2 and n = 1), have been synthesized and characterized. Infrared and UVVis spectral data along with room temperature magnetic behaviour (2.50-2.85 B.M.) indicate chelating bidentate mode of coordination of ligand, 4-EtPipzcdtH with four coordination around Co(II). 1 H NMR and ESMS of [Co(4-EtPipzcdtH) 2 ]Cl 2 further support its structure. Molar conductance study shows 1:2 electrolytic behaviour for complexes with Cl, Br, ClO 4 , NO 3 and CH 3 COO as counter anions, while 1:1 electrolytic behaviour for CO 3 and SO 4 as counter anions. Ligand and its complexes have also been studied using non-isothermal techniques (TG and DSC). The anion has been found to play pronounced effect on the nature of thermal decomposition products. The DSC curves of the complexes displayed very sharp exothermic peaks.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
