The purpose of this work is to develop and to compare different methods for the determination of startup flows of a pseudoplastic fluid in pipes under a varying pressure gradient. Three methods are proposed: 1. A method involving a finite-difference calculation. 2. A method using an approximation of the acceleration term in the equation governing the phenomenon. 3. An experimental method based on measurements of local velocities by means of Laser-Doppler anemometry. The most interesting point of this work is the good agreement observed between the three methods in the non-Newtonian case.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
