POEM is effective for achalasia and has similar outcomes as LHM. Multicenter randomized trials need to be conducted to further compare the efficacy and safety of POEM between treatment naïve achalasia patients and those who failed treatment.
SUMMARY
BackgroundIn mild acute pancreatitis, traditional treatment has been initial fasting and oral refeeding with clear liquids to prevent adverse gastrointestinal events such as pain. The diet is gradually progressed to soft solids and hospital discharge is planned based on patients' tolerance to a solid diet.
Study demonstrates excellent safety profile of POEM with significant relief of symptoms, reduced pressure at HRM and improved emptying at TBE. Further prospective studies are required to compare with other treatment modalities.
