The large volumes of water withdrawn a t both the warm and cold water intakes of an CYI ' EC plant mst be screened to remove organisms and debris which could clog the heat exchangers. This paper reviews the recent l i t e r a t u r e on screening technology. In addition, various screen manufacturers and coastal f a c i l i t i e s which use large volumes of seawater b e r e visited to determine the operating experience with present screen technology. S t a t i c screens (particularly the Johnson Division, U O P profile wire screen and the Royce Equipnent Ccnnpany carrousel screen) have the potential advantage for OIEc of operating in a completely suherged state and of being cheaper to operate and maintain than traveling screens. However, there is no operational history with these static screens for large intake systems. The most prcanising traveling screen options for OIEc are the dual flow screens. They
