SUMMARY
The results of patch tests involving 43 substances are reported. Individual contactants were tested on from 243 to 1205 patients. Comparisons are made with the results reported by the International Research Group on Contact Dermatitis.
Sensitivity to some topical drugs and preservatives has been investigated in 1,440 patients. Only in the case of Balsam of Peru, neomycin, menthol and vioform has sensitivity been found to be decisively more frequent in long-term than in short-term patients. Sensitivity to topical drugs has been much more common in stasis dermatitis than in other forms of eczema. Tolerance of cosmetics by persons, in whom the contactants investigated had given positive tests, has often been poor.
