В обзорной статье описывается история применения аэрокосмических технологий в лесном секторе Российской Федерации. В качестве теоретического базиса, на котором основывается представленное нами исследование, рассматривались научные разработки, сделанные как отечественными специалистами, так и учеными из зарубежных стран. Исследуемые научные труды касались таких вопросов, как сущность, закономерность функционирования и закономерность развития цифровых технологий в агролесомелиорации. В работе применялись общенаучные методы, используемые в исторической и сельскохозяйственной науках. Поиск материалов осуществлялся в базах данных eLibrary.Ru, поисковой системе «Google Академия» и портале ResearchGate. Глубина поиска составила период 1976-2022 гг. Поисковые запросы выполнялись по следующим ключевым словам на русском и английском языке: «история аэрофотосъемки и гис-технологий», «цифровые технологии в агролесомелиорации», «космоснимки»; aerial photography, satellite images, gis technologies, protective forest plantations, remote methods. Установлено, что дистанционные (аэрокосмические) методы успешно применяются в отечественном лесном хозяйстве с конца XVIII в. Рассмотрены современные методы применения пространственного анализа для рационального природопользования как инструмента поддержки принятия решений. Благодаря их использованию были реализованы инвентаризация и картографирование лесов России, комплекс мероприятий по охране лесов от пожаров, вредителей и болезней, наблюдение за лесопользованием и воспроизводством. По результатам анализа многочисленных научных работ был сделан вывод, что цифровые технологии позволят оптимизировать процесс цифровизации сельскохозяйственной отрасли и повысить производительность труда предприятий лесного сектора экономики страны. Но требуются дальнейшие разработки с использованием геоинформационных технологий в изучении защитных лесных насаждений.
