We present 14 patients with Duane’s syndrome and discuss our experience in the surgical management of this condition applying a method that takes into account the abnormal neural mechanism involved.
In the difficult cases of cataract associated with pseudoexfoliation syndrome, small pupil and phacodonesis, the modern small-incision cataract surgery provides better results with a low rate of intraoperative and postoperative complications when compared with the extracapsular cataract extraction technique.
Ten patients with small angle intermittent exotropia of 14 to 16 prism diopters were treated by unilateral lateral rectus muscle recession of 11.5 to 12 mm on the nondominant eye.
In the immediate postoperative phase, overcorrection of 4 to 6 Δ gave a very good functional result. Abduction deficiency was minimal for recession up to 12 mm.
This procedure should be considered as an alternative approach in the treatment of small angle intermittent exotropia showing a "basic" pattern.
Isolated lateral rectus myositis can be a manifestation of idiopathic orbital inflammation. Diagnosis is made by the clinical presentation and imaging with orbital MRI/CT-scans. Other local or systemic inflammatory, endocrine or neoplastic diseases must be ruled out.
