The geographical variation of terpenes of Pinus nigra populations from southwestern Europe was studied. Terpenes from the foliage of 16 populations from Corsica, Herault (France) and the East Pyrenees (France and Spain) were analyzed. A total of 42 terpenes were detected, with α-pinene the dominant monoterpene and germacrene-d and caryophyllene the dominant sesquiterpenes. The differences in quantitative content of selected compounds clearly divide populations into two basic geographical groups: on one side the populations from Herault and the East Pyrenees and on the other the populations from Corsica. β-Phellandrene and δ-cadinene have the greatest influence on this global discrimination. Some trees and populations show a similarity although they belong to different geographic locations. The similarity of some trees S. Bojovic ( ) · P. Pavlovic · M. Mitrovic · L. Djurdjevic from Herault and the East Pyrenees and trees from Corsica points to their common origin (Corsica). Our results confirm the hypothesis that the afforestation of Herault and the East Pyrenees was also performed with black pine from Corsica.
The particular significance of the whitebark pine (Pinus heldreichii Christ.) stems from the fact that it is a tertiary relict and Balkanic subendemite covering a very narrow and intermittent area in Serbia. A representative pool of 48 adult trees originating from three populations, one recently discovered natural (Population I) and two planted populations (Populations II and III) was investigated in order to evaluate the intra- and interpopulation variability of the essential oil of the complete fund of P. heldreichii in Serbia. In the pine-needle-terpene profile, 104 compounds were detected, 84 of which could be identified. Among the essential-oil constituents, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes dominated, comprising ca. 90% of the essential oil. The terpenic profile of Population I was characterized by a predominance of monoterpenes (e.g., limonene (1), α-pinene, and Δ(3) -carene (4)), while sesquiterpenes (e.g., germacrene D (2) and β-caryophyllene (3)) obviously preponderated in the profile of Populations II and III. This study also demonstrated that the abundance of whitebark pines in Serbia had significantly changed over the last few decades. The number of individuals in the natural population had increased, while the number of individuals in the planted populations had decreased. Today, the whitebark pine fund in Serbia comprises less than 250 trees.

Regional models enable getting the most important regional characteristics without detailed measurements on all individual objects. Testing of the obtained regional model by using data samples is done. A very high correlation is obtained between real data and data computed on the basis of regional models. It is shown that application of NNs provides better regional models than those obtained by linear regression.
Water regulation, integral water management and water conservation are one of the main tasks, set by an ecologically conscious society. A series of complex treatments are set in order to achieve the main goal in wastewater treatment, i.e. eliminating or reducing pollutants to a level that will not cause adverse effects to humans and the environment. The paper presents the construction of an efficient, environmentally friendly and economically justified biological system for the treatment of polluted urban waters. Research has shown that the proposed system with floating islands and algae was effective in removing various categories of pollutants from polluted river (organic and inorganic matter, heavy metals and pathogenic microorganisms), which indicated that the selected type of construction was appropriate. It was concluded that minor modifications in terms of cell coverage by floating islands could provide even greater removal of certain pollutants such as nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metals.
In urban areas treelined paths are the most vulnerable element. According expected functions treelined paths in certain street are unsatisfactory with their appearance and general condition. These are primarily biological, ecological, sociological and aesthetic functions. Because of negative anthropogenic influences trees are with low level condition, very low functionality and the unsatisfactory state of health. Most of the trees exist in very difficult circumstances of streets, there are crowded in the underground and in the aboveground part. In such circumstances, just as individual specimens of trees grow into individuals who manifest themselves in terms of morphology characteristics which are representative of its species. In this paper is presented the state of the avenue of horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) in two central streets of the old part of Obrenovca. The data were analyzed on the basis of the reviewed every tree and with the particular assessing the state of the crown and the state of the trunk. Based on the analysis of the results measures are proposed for the rehabilitation of individual trees as well as measures for the reconstruction of the entire tree line.
