Rauterbevg (1964)

Pflanzenernahr.,To determine the optimum conditions for the evaluation of th,e phosphorus requirement of a soil, rhe effect of soil : solution ratio, time of contact 'and concentration of solution were examined.Six soils were treated with 0.05 and 0.1 M NH,-EDTA at different ratios of soil : solution. From the small average deviation from the general average of the relativc; values of individual results it was concluded that the soil : solution ratio has no infl-tience on rhc u x of NH,-EDTR n i n iniems of evaluating the phosphorus req~iirement of a soil. In a further series investigating thc solution at strengths of 0.01, 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1 M for a series of times of 5, 15, 30, 60 and 120 mins it was found that concentration of the extractant has no effect nor has the time of contact.
Band 1 I X srd with succeeding treatments. For the evaluation of the soil as a supplier of plant nutrients not only the amount of nutrient extracted in the first treatment, but also the amount extracted in successive treatments is required. These quantities can be calculated approximately from the amounts extracted in the first two extractions. These are given by rhe r,elation X = a2/(a-b), where a and b are in the first and second extractions respectively.
