En este artículo se analizan comparativamente aspectos que han sido problematizadas políticamente en Brasil y Argentina respecto de la disponibilidad de la anticoncepción quirúrgica femenina, entre otras técnicas de regulación de la fecundidad. El análisis se basa en la revisión bibliográfica y, para el caso argentino, en hallazgos que surgen de una etnografía recientemente concluida, centrada en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. A partir de allí, se abordan el devenir de políticas y los aspectos abordados en la producción bibliográfica sobre el tema en ambos países. El análisis revela núcleos de sentido y prácticas comunes, así como divergencias.
