RESUMO -Considerando a necessidade de melhor conhecimento dos processos de superação da dormência de uma espécie de interesse econômico, neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar a utilização de diferentes tratamentos para a superação da dormência de sementes de Adenanthera pavonina L., colocadas para germinar sob três diferentes temperaturas (30, 35 e 40 ºC). Foram realizados dois experimentos: imersão em ácido sulfúrico (H 2 SO 4 por 10, 20 e 30 min) e escarificação mecânica (lixa para madeira nº. 80 por 15, 30 e 45 s) e uma testemunha (zero). O delineamento experimental utilizado em cada um dos experimentos foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 40 sementes cada. Procedeu-se às análises de regressão de cada uma das variáveis, que foram: porcentagem de germinação aos sete dias; índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG); e velocidade de germinação (VG), decorrentes das contagens diárias das sementes germinadas, em que foram consideradas como germinadas aquelas que apresentaram protrusão da raiz primária, sendo posteriormente descartadas. Nas condições em que se conduziram os trabalhos, foi possível inferir que: a temperatura de 35 ºC foi a que propiciou maiores porcentagens de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e velocidade de germinação; a porcentagem máxima de germinação, a 35 ºC, foi obtida com imersão em H 2 SO 4 durante 22 min ou abrasão com lixa por 20 seg; o IVG máximo, por 27 min (em H 2 SO 4 ) ou 32,5 seg (abrasão com lixa); e a VG máxima, por 27,3 min (em H 2 SO 4 ) ou 34 seg (abrasão com lixa).Palavras-chave: Escarificação mecânica, escarificação ácida e Adenanthera pavonina L.
