AbstractThis research aimed to address the need to develop scales for evaluating students' perceptions of their writing skills, especially in primary education. Thus, the Scale for Perceiving the Knowledge of Writing in Portugal was validated, after translation and adaptation of an American scale, with 338 students of the 4th year of schooling, randomly selected. The results explain 38.5% of the data variance. The final scale presented a differentiated structure composed of two factors: "Produce content" and "Plan" and 12 items. The total Alpha of the scale was .776 and meets the required reliability criteria.
