ResumoA procura por novos materiais nanoestruturados que possuam atividade antimicrobiana e que possam surgir como alternativa em aplicações biotecnológicas vem despertando grande interesse pela comunidade científica. O emprego de recursos naturais no desenvolvimento desses materiais torna-se interessante não só pela sua disponibilidade e baixo custo como também por se tratar de materiais, geralmente com baixa ou nenhuma toxicidade e que possui propriedades de interesse, como é o caso da argila palygorskita (PAL), também denominada de atapulgita. Dessa forma, uma nova aplicabilidade é proposta com a utilização desse recurso natural com vistas ao desenvolvimento de produtos biotecnológicos, como o desenvolvimento de nanocompósitos constituídos pela incorporação de nanopartículas de prata (AgNPs) na PAL para a sua utilização como agente bactericida.
