Embora houvesse alguns avanços na demarcação de terras indígenas no Brasil, é incontestável que há necessidade imediata de ampliação das áreas demarcadas. Este texto tem a finalidade de contribuir para o debate acadêmico e civil, sobre a urgência na demarcação de novas terras indígenas, esta necessidade, se justifica, pelos inúmeros registros jornalísticos, de mortes e conflitos de indígenas com fazendeiros, mineradores, grileiros, sojistas, entre outros. A partir da verificação das principais fatos histórica e institucional, da ação do Estado sobre a questão indígena, será possível compreender o contexto de luta e resistência destes povos, bem como a pressão genocida devido ao avanço do agronegócio, da mineração e dos grandes empreendimentos (usinas hidrelétricas). Portanto, a demarcação de novas áreas destinadas aos povos indígenas, bem como, ação efetiva da FUNAI – Fundação Nacional do Índio e políticas públicas que de fato cumprem seu papel sociocultural, são necessidades imediatas para garantir o mínimo de integridade física e a segurança destes povos que vivem sob ameaças.
