Arboreal Vegetation Dynamics in an Anthropized Montane Araucaria Forest ABSTRACTChanges in floristic composition, phytosociological structure and dynamic processes like ingrowth, mortality and diameter increment were studied between 2007 and 2009 in all trees with DBH ≥ 5 cm in a fragment of Montane Araucaria Forest in Boa Ventura do São Roque, Paraná, Brazil. The analyses showed the occurrence 2596 ind.ha-1, 25 families, 40 genera and 45 species, while in the survey conducted in 2009, 2558 indivuals.ha-1, 27 families, 41 genera and 47 species were registered, with Matayba elaeagnoides Radlk. being the most important species in both surveys. The forest fragment showed a mortality rate of 0.41% per year and recruitment of 1.75% per year. This indicates that the dynamics take place in a gradual manner, with a mean annual increment (MAI) of 0.328 cm.year-1. Based on the evaluated parameters, it follows that the fragment is in process of regeneration.
This study aimed to evaluate the rooting of apical, intermediate and basal ministumps of Eucalyptus benthamiiMaiden et Cambage. The minicuttings were collected from ministumps originated from seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, in a 4x3 factorial arrangement with factors consisting of four clones of E. benthamii (C50, C51, C52 e C53) and three types of cuttings (apical, intermediate and basal). The survival and rooting were evaluated with 45 days in shadow house, and 90 days in the full sun stage. In the end of the evaluations, the clone C52 proved to be better in survival, rooting and height growth. In full sun stage, when the seedlings completed the development cycle, the apical minicutting proved to be the kind of propagules with grater aptitude on rooting when compared with the others clones.
This study aimed to assess the initial development of Eucalyptus benthamii implanted in four different spacing. The experiment was conducted in random block design, using the following spacing: 2x3, 3x3, 3x4 and 4x4. We used height and diameter at breast heights (DBH) data collected at the ages of 2 and 3 years to assess the linear correlation between the variables, annual height and diameter increase, and the volumetric production at 3 years old. The results did not show significant difference of individual height and volume in the performed assessments. However, it was observed a higher diameter increment according to higher vital area availability. The highest productivity rate was of 66.55 m³ ha-1 , registered in a 2x3 spacing between plants, while in the biggest spacing adopted (4x4) the productivity was of only 31.61 m³ ha-1 , at three years old. It was concluded that there's influence of the spacing on the dendrometric variables, mainly in diameter and volume.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of planting spacing on production and dendrometric variables, in experimental planting with improved E. benthamiiseeds, at six years of age. The experimental design adopted was in randomized blocks, with four replications of twenty trees. The treatments were four planting spacing 3 x 2 m, 3 x 3 m, 3 x 4 m and 4 x 4 m. After the field procedures (forest inventory, sampling and cubage of 79 trees), the main dendrometric parameters were obtained in each spacing. The heights were determined by a hypsometric relationship and the volume ofother trees in the stand was estimated by the model of Schumacher and Hall (1933). The dendrometric variables showed a high correlation with the spacing. The wider spacing favored the diameter, height, transversal area and the individual volume, while the smaller vital spaces were responsible for the highest values of basal area and volume per hectare. Production ranged from 238.90 m³ ha-1in the largest spacing to 392.08 m³ ha-1in the smallest spacing. It was concluded that there was an effect of the planting spacing, and that with the trends observed regarding the higher production per hectare in the denser spacing, it is opportune to plan the forest production according to the planting spacing adopted.
