Longevity, represented by the increase in the average life span worldwide, entails a counterpart, a constant concern with the natural consequences that the aging process causes in the body. The present work, by focusing its analysis on the existing relationship between physical activity and functional autonomy, aims to evaluate the impact of physical activity on the functional autonomy of the elderly. The methodology used had a qualitative and quantitative approach. Exploratory and descriptive and survey and as data collection instruments, a physical activity protocol proposed by the (WHO, 2015) and the GDALM Protocol were used, which constitutes a battery of physical tests that measures autonomy. The sample consisted of a group of 30 practitioners of activities and another of 30 elderly non-practitioners. The analysis of the results was performed by means of statistical calculations of the comparative data of the tests of both groups. The results showed the relevance of programmed and controlled physical activity in the preservation of functional autonomy in the elderly.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
