Desexualization is the process by which sexuality is extracted from an identity (or presentation of self), interaction, setting, or discourse. Application of the term is contextual, and its meaning varies based on several factors, including who does the desexualizing, who (or what behavior) is desexualized, and why the desexualization occurs. Individuals can desexualize themselves through how they dress or behave. Cultures, governments, and workplaces can desexualize via laws, policies, and norms. This entry describes the varied meanings and consequences of desexualization in three areas of research: workplaces, rape, and sex education.

Another notable feature of the book is the diverse and contemporary set of scholars interviewed. Finally, the examples and access to podcasts should appeal to current generations.
