The interpretative focus of the observations done by the teacher on the student's activity also influences in the before mentioned problems. The assessment with a rigid scoring seems inappropriate to measure this dynamic phenomenon. In order to treat the imprecision involved in a more flexible way, an approach based on fuzzy logic is proposed aiming at improving the diagnosis. In this approach, the linguistic variable knowledge level is estimated using three linguistic variables: grades' progression, tests' passing level, and final grade with respect to the course's average. The approach is comprised by 27 fuzzy rules that capture the professors' expertise and uses three linguistic variables of input and one of output. The experience carried out showed an enlarged vision to obtain additional information from traditional grades. Advantages have been found in the students' assessment with the proposed approach: it is more flexible than the traditional assessment and the professors can express themselves in a natural language.
The use and development of resources such as Open Cobalt, a tool for creating virtual worlds, present an interesting research field, from the technological perspective as well as from the educational point of view. This platform was selected for analysis mainly because it has a decentralized communications scheme and it is developed in a dynamic programming language. A set of features of the platform was chosen to analyze and based on the tests results it is concluded that Open Cobalt has the necessary resources to generate interactive simulations in a collaborative environment.
Natural finder. Definition finder. ABSTRACTTwo types of theories address the organization of conceptual knowledge: holistic and featurebased. The aim of this paper is to present two computerized methods to capture and analyze semantic networks, the Natural Finder and the Definition Finder, which belong to these models respectively. The first is a recursive procedure to capture the natural semantic network of a person around a target concept; the second shows as a result the set of weighted defining features for certain concept given by a social group. Examples of its application are presented.KEYWORDS: Semantic network. Exploration methods.; natural finder.; definition finder.
