A fragment of the Streptococcus pneumoniae PhtA gene product (residues 18±230) was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The puri®ed protein was crystallized using the sitting-drop vapourdiffusion technique. Crystals belong to the monoclinic space group C2, with unit-cell parameters a = 62.19, b = 35.9, c = 72.54 A Ê , = 90.01 . The crystals diffract X-rays to beyond 1.2 A Ê resolution.
MicA is a response regulator from Streptococcus pneumoniae thought to be involved in redox-energy sensing under oxygen-limiting environments. The purified protein was crystallized using the sitting-drop vapour-diffusion technique. X-ray diffraction data were collected using synchrotron radiation to a resolution of 1.91 A. The crystals belong to the monoclinic space group C222(1), with unit-cell parameters a = 78.69, b = 92.57, c = 37.16 A, alpha = beta = gamma = 90.0 degrees. The Matthews coefficient indicates that MicA crystallizes with one molecule in the asymmetric unit.

The EF0377 gene of Enterococcus faecalis was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The protein has been purified and crystallized in three forms. Type III crystals belong to space group P2(1), with unit-cell parameters a = 72.11, b = 94.97, c = 80.77 A, beta = 111.93 degrees. There are four molecules per asymmetric unit and diffraction is observed to beyond 1.65 A under cryoconditions (100 K) using synchrotron radiation. An almost complete set of X-ray diffraction data was collected to 1.9 A from the native crystal.
