Data from this study show that there is excellent inter- and intra-rater reliability and inter-rater agreement for curve type and each modifier. The high degree of reliability demonstrates that applying the classification system is easy and consistent.
Patients with fixed, decompensated spinal deformity may be safely corrected by vertebrectomy, decancellation, spinal shortening, instrumentation, and fusion. Complications are transient, and the benefits in this select group of patients outweigh the risks.
Anterior corpectomy, strut graft, and Z-plate fixation is an effective treatment for thoracolumbar burst fractures. It allows direct decompression of the spinal cord in the acute setting and was associated with a high rate of neurologic improvement, no instances of neurologic worsening in any case, and a low complication rate.
