This large and attractively printed book includes more than 200 color images of carved artworks by contemporary Native American woodcarvers of the Northwest Coast. The majority of the carvings are masks of various kinds and most of these were produced by Kwakwaka'wakw artisans. The limited text sets the artworks in the context of the carvers' cultures and is intended for a general audience. This book is an important complement to studies of older examples of Northwest Coast carving and could be used for ethnoarchaeological studies of changing art styles within a tightly defined stylistic grammar.
