<p><em>A introdução de agentes farmacológicos no corpo humano tem sido o foco inicial da pesquisa em sistemas de propulsão de microfluxo, conhecidos na literatura como microbombas, com vazões da ordem de 1 μl/min até 100 μl/min. No entanto, as microbombas possuem aplicações em outras áreas, como na refrigeração de circuitos microeletrônicos e, mais recentemente, em sistemas miniaturizados para análises químicas e bioquímicas. Com o aperfeiçoamento das técnicas de manufatura de dispositivos microfluídicos, surgiu o conceito de LOC (Lab-on-Chip), sendo todo o procedimento de análise realizado em um único dispositivo, que contém um sistema de propulsão de fluido (microbomba) e local para preparação, manipulação e análises de amostras, tudo integrado e miniaturizado. A primeira parte desse complexo sistema de análise está relacionada ao transporte do analito, da entrada até a região de detecção, sendo realizada por algum tipo de microbomba. Assim, este trabalho traz um resumo sobre os dispositivos mais usados na literatura, seus mecanismos de atuação e atuadores, tipos de válvulas e o processo de manufatura, abordando características históricas até os dias atuais.</em></p><p><em> </em></p>
