The objective of the present study was to carry out a systematic review of the literature, in order to analyze, in fact, the effectiveness of the supplementation effect and its ergogenic and anti-fatigue potential. Methods: a systematic search was carried out in the electronic databases, such as Pubmed, Scielo, Periódico Capes, published in Portuguese and English, and articles published between the years 2014 and 2019, which related sodium bicarbonate supplementation, were analyzed. in athletes before their high intensity sports practices.Results: 30 eligible studies were found that met the study inclusion criteria. Conclusion:The evidence found in this review may state that sodium bicarbonate supplementation has ergogenic potential in a broad group of sports activities.
