O presente trabalho representa uma contribuição ao estudo da terminologia de Enfermagem, inserida na Taxionomia das funções do Enfermeiro. A Taxionomia consta de seis classes com suas respectivas categorias. É um estudo teórico-formal, bastante complexo, necessitando de outras investigações que possam solidificar essas bases científicas da profissão. UNITERMOS: Enfermagem -terminologia. Enfermagem -Brasil.A necessidade de se organizar a estrutura conceituai de enfermagem se fez sentir desde 1969 quando CARVALHO (1969) expressou:"Embora a Enfermagem utilize uma terminologia procedente das ciências da saúde e outras, utiliza também seus próprios termos e expressões. Todavia, estes não estão precisamente definidos ou descritos em português, o que dificulta o sentido uniforme e, conseqüentemente, a interpretação que deve ter no âmbito profissional. Isto indica a necessidade de uma Comissão para fazer um glossário que sirva para uniformizar os termos próprios da enfermagem e adotá-los oficialmente. Esta Comissão deve incluir em cada número da Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem a publicação desses termos, na proporção em que forem sendo definidos". Em vários Congressos de Enfermagem fez-se também alusão acerca do assunto, além de outros trabalhos esporádicos encontrados nas revistas de Enfermagem.A estrutura conceituai que ora apresentamos é o resultado de uma tese de mestrado de 1980. Não se encontrou, no Brasil, após essa data, algo a respeito, por isso é o que se tem atualmente.Os conceitos de enfermagem constituem parte integrante e essencial do contexto teórico e prático da profissão. A existência de uma terminologia básica e exclusiva, é premente e necessária ao desenvolvimento da profissão, pois contribuirá para delimitar a área específica de atuação do
