Denne artikel handler om sorgen i danske Helle Helles roman de (2018), som er indstillet til Nordisk Råds Litteraturpris. Med udgangspunkt i Judith Butlers tanker om sorg og om det at miste viser jeg, at sorgen i Helles roman er så omsiggribende, at den saetter sit aftryk på romanens formsprog, dens narrativitet og cyklistiske komposition. Med begrebet anticipatorisk sorg analyserer jeg romanens navnløse hovedpersons reaktion på, at hendes mor skal dø, og argumenterer for, at sorgen i romanen er forbundet med skriften, idet morens død bliver en katalysator, der gør det muligt for den navnløse hovedperson at fortaelle historien om morens sidste år, hvor det «de», som findes i romanens titel, ophører med at eksistere. Afsluttende påpeger jeg, hvordan romanen udgør tredje del af en trilogi i Helles forfatterskab, og at den repraesenterer en ny strømning i nyere nordisk litteratur: sorgvaerker.
