Palavras-chave: Alfabetização de adultos; Biblioteca pública; Papel do bibliotecário Abstract: It presents an auspicious panorama about the information professional's performance in adult education. It points out the social responsibility of the information professional, passing through the context of the internet and access to information. It concludes with the consideration that the public library is a place for literacy, making it an extension of education.
