En este artículo se presentan resultados de investigación como producto de un proceso de formación desarrollado en un curso dirigido a estudiantes de últimos semestres de la Licenciatura en Educación con énfasis en Ciencias Naturales y Educación Ambiental, de la Universidad del Valle. El propósito es determinar cómo los fundamentos de la mediación didáctica contribuyen a la implementación de las actividades experimentales para la enseñanza de las ciencias naturales en docentes en formación. Para lograrlo se realizó la observación y análisis de clases de docentes en formación en el contexto del curso y en ambientes escolares. Para lo anterior, se tiene como enfoque metodológico el estudio de caso mediante el seguimiento a dos docentes en formación, matriculados en el curso de Mediación Didáctica de las Ciencias Naturales, ofrecido durante un semestre, con una intensidad horaria de 3 horas semanales en 16 sesiones. Lo anterior implica, la consideración y desarrollo de cuatro momentos: 1) caracterización académica de los docentes en formación; 2) cualificación de los docentes en formación, 3) análisis de los registros fílmicos de las clases realizadas por los docentes en formación; 4) registro de la información, el análisis y las conclusiones. Podemos destacar que uno de los principales aspectos observados está relacionado con las concepciones disciplinares, pedagógicas y didácticas que poseen los docentes, evidenciables en la planificación y desarrollo de las actividades experimentales desarrolladas en las clases. Vimos una importante oportunidad para que los docentes en formación reflexionaran y cuestionaran las estrategias utilizadas abriendo paso al diseño de procesos de enseñanza auténticos y significativos.
