RESUMOA literatura disponível não permite identificar, com facilidade, formas e processos conducentes à operacionalização da prontidão motora no domínio pedagógico. No presente estudo assume-se que a prontidão motora envolve aspetos relacionados com a proficiência motora e a aptidão física, de modo que possa ser avaliada por meio de testes específicos.Daqui que o objetivo desta pesquisa seja o de operacionalizar a PM associada à aptidão físi-ca. Para o efeito (1) recorre-se à análise da função discriminante para verificar a presença de diferenças nas categorias de prontidão esperadas ao longo dos vários anos de escolaridade; (2) apresenta-se um "aptidograma" com base na distribuição do desempenho a partir da regressão quantílica cujos valores possam servir de indicadores de distintos níveis de prontidão motora. A amostra total é composta por 2986 crianças e jovens, do 5º ao 9º ano de escolaridade, que foram avaliados em cinco testes motores: dinamometria manual, impulsão horizontal, corrida vai-vem, corrida de 50 jardas e corrida/marcha da milha. Os resultados mostram incrementos do desempenho em ambos os sexos ao longo dos anos de escolaridade, tendo os meninos desempenhos médios superiores. Os perfis configuracionais de PM são inferiores aos esperados em cada ano de escolaridade, com exceção dos alunos do 5º ano, em ambos os sexos, e dos meninos do 9º ano. Os "aptidogramas" mostram resultados diferenciados por ano e sexo, salientando o diferencial de PM. Em conclusão, os valores de reclassificação da função discriminante traduzem não só insuficiência de prontidão motora em diferentes anos de escolaridade, mas também heterogeneidade e variabilidade interindividual existentes em crianças e jovens do mesmo ano de escolaridade.
