El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el libro La cara de la miseria (1926) del colombiano José Antonio Osorio Lizarazo. Mientras la crítica de Osorio Lizarazo ha enfatizado la mirada social del autor, en este artículo se propone analizar su recorrido por la ciudad con énfasis en espacios que tensionan el imaginario de la ciudad moderna. Construye así la imagen de una ciudad-archipiélago. Además, se explora al cronista como un “investigador de emociones”, asunto que ha pasado desapercibido. La metodología corresponde a un análisis textual a partir del mobile turn y de la teoría de los afectos. Se concluye que el periodista profesional afecta y es afectado por el contacto con la materialidad urbana y los habitantes de la ciudad-archipiélago. De este modo, Osorio Lizarazo es un mediador entre la ciudad y el conurbano que también se investiga a sí mismo y se reconoce como parte de ambos espacios.
A partir de una muestra de sus primeros 10 años, en este artículo se propone que Atenea se articula como una revista académica y una revista cultural, en la que se cultiva las humanidades y las ciencias sociales, y que, al mismo tiempo, se acercaría al magazín por medio de la inclusión de secciones que llamo aquí secundarias, que se ocupan de la actualidad, de lo inmediato y de materias no apropiadas para las otras secciones de la revista. A esta mirada de las secciones y tipología, se añade el análisis de la práctica de la “tecnología del recorte y digestión” que la hace partícipe de la glo-balización de la cultura. Esta tecnología que se manifiesta en casi todas sus secciones, con disímil intensidad, hace de Atenea un espacio de profesionalización y, también, un impreso de divulgación destinado a los sectores medios.
El presente artículo estudia un conjunto de imágenes de mujeres lectoras aparecidas en revista ZigZag durante las décadas del veinte y treinta, principalmente en ilustraciones de portada, avisos publicitarios y fotografías al interior de reportajes. A través del análisis de elementos visuales y materiales en las imágenes interesa pensar las significaciones de lo moderno en relación a las prácticas de lectura femenina que muestra la revista. El artículo postula que existen escenas de lectura en las que aparecen modelos femeninos residuales en los que lo "moderno" se circunscribe a las nuevas posibilidades de eficiencia en el cuidado del hogar burgués, la belleza y la salud. A su vez, estos modelos entran en tensión con una creciente producción de imágenes en las que la lectura se asocia a grados crecientes de inserción en el mundo del trabajo asalariado. El estudio se interesa por la repetición de ciertas gestualidades en las imágenes serializadas de la prensa de masas y por las posibles significaciones que esto imprime a las representaciones de prácticas lectoras femeninas, en particular avisos publicitarios orientados a la belleza en las que las mujeres miran un espejo.
