RESUMO A motosserra é muito utilizada no desdobro de toras de madeira na Amazônia. No entanto, estudos que visem o melhor rendimento durante a obtenção de peças de madeira serrada de espécies nativas ainda carecem de estudos específicos. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o rendimento e a eficiência operacional no desdobro de toras da espécie tauari (Cariniana decandra Ducke) com uso de motosserra na Amazônia Ocidental. Foi acompanhado o processo de desdobro de sete toras, as quais foram cubadas e observadas à ocorrência de defeitos. Para avaliar o rendimento em madeira serrada, as tábuas produzidas tiveram suas dimensões mensuradas. O tempo foi cronometrado desde a fixação da tora no solo até o desdobro da última peça para avaliar a eficiência operacional. O resultado obtido de rendimento médio em madeira serrada foi de 41,5%, sendo superior ao estabelecido pelo CONAMA. A conicidade não foi significativa na explicação do rendimento por diâmetro da tora, porém, o maior rendimento foi obtido na tora de menor conicidade. A eficiência operacional do desdobro com motosserra, com corte direcionado, foi de 0,59 m³/operário/hora foi maior com o aumento do diâmetro das toras. Pode-se concluir que os valores obtidos foram satisfatórios, com base nos resultados encontrados na literatura. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: madeiras da Amazônia; madeira serrada; serrarias.
